The Irish duo Ye Vagabonds consists of the two brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn, who began their careers as street musicians in their hometown of Carlow in southwest Ireland. They quickly developed a distinctive style inspired by traditional Irish folk, rootsy Americana, and Appalachian folk singing. The result: a rich, rustic soundscape with dreamy, tightly woven harmonies, thoughtful lyrics, and delicate acoustic instrumental playing.
They have been recognized at the RTE Folk Awards in recent years, winning Best Folk Group and Best Folk Album in 2019 and 2021 (for their 2019 album The Hare's Lament), as well as Best Traditional Folk Song for 'The Foggy Dew' in 2019 and for 'I'm a Rover' in 2021. They count Irish President Michael D. Higgins as one of their biggest fans.
In 2012, Ye Vagabonds relocated to Dublin and quickly became a regular and welcome presence on the dynamic live music and session scene, which explains the authenticity and sophisticated technical skill that characterize their performances. Deeply rooted in traditional, familiar sounds, their music never succumbs to cliché, but rather celebrates its own strong character, clearly standing out from the crowd.
Sun It's no surprise that Ye Vagabonds caught the attention of renowned music filmmaker Myles O'Reilly in 2014 and were invited by Glen Hansard to open his European tour in 2015. Their debut EP, "Rose & Briar," was also released in 2015. Since then, the duo has toured Ireland (most notably their innovative 2021 canal boat tour "All Boats Rise," filmed by Myles O'Reilly), the UK, and Europe with the likes of The Villagers, Roy Harper, and Lisa Hannigan, as well as playing their own sold-out shows in Ireland, the UK, France, and Switzerland.
