As the great Lausanne marabout of peppery Afrobeat, this motley combo of musicians who originally come more from the jazz tradition brews us a brilliant mix of high life, ethno jazz and funk in the most beautiful groove coat! Hot brass instruments, pounding percussion and intoxicating guitars, always surprising invitations, some rhythms and melodies so wonderfully redolent of Africa - Fela Kuti would be quite proud of these worthy representatives of an inventive, generous and complexity-free style! After several appearances on the biggest Swiss stages (Cully Jazz Festival, Paléo Festival, Festi'Neuch, Festival de la Cité...), the eleven-piece combo from Lausanne is back with the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Yobale Ma! Grow Yes Yes! is a nine-track LP that transcends the codes of Afrobeat with spicy grooves and a warm sound, reinterpreting the music of Fela Kuti in an unashamed and relaxed way. Between classic Afro-funk, contemporary highlife and tropical flair, Professor Wouassa will have you sweating, dancing and shaking right from the start.
Among them, of course, the ALMA NEGRA collective, founded by brothers Diego and Dersu Figueira in the former LADYBAR on Feldbergstrasse. They come from Cape Verde and have made a name for themselves throughout Europe with their DJ sets and releases/remixes.
