In just a few years, the Jugendjazzorchester (JJO) has developed into a very dynamic ensemble that takes 21st century jazz by the scruff of the neck: collective performance stands above individual virtuosity, genre boundaries fade, electronic sounds are part of the mix, the beats are diversely inspired.
Benjamin Weidekamp has been leading the JJO since spring 2019 - the collective idea is also central to his artistic work.
The JJO offers talented Swiss musicians of youth age the opportunity to work for several months on a programme written especially for the ensemble and then to perform it as part of a nationwide tour. Thus, in addition to the existing offers in the orchestral and chamber music sector in Switzerland, there is finally also continuous promotion in jazz as far as large formats are concerned.
