If you had to describe the lushly produced synth-pop of Eefje de Visser in one word, "Bitterzoet", which means 'bittersweet', would certainly be a good choice. However, the title of the Dutch singer's fourth album also makes sense from another artistic perspective. Her music has never sounded so full of longing and yet firmly rooted in the present. The present, confronted with an era that is equal parts fear and hope.
Ethereal vocals waft through aquatic synthesizer soundscapes with the elegance that has always been De Visser's trademark, but now really comes into its own. The Benelux countries have celebrated her as a star for years, and now the rest of the world is realizing what a pop visionary this woman is.
