Domenique Dumont live at the Gannet, Basel
The mysterious name Domenique Dumont conceals an extraordinary musical collaboration: the multi-instrumentalist and producer Arturs Liepiņš, the singer and ethnomusicologist Anete Stuce - and perhaps another artist from France, whose involvement remains unclear to this day.
Since its beginnings in 2013, the band, which has its roots on the shores of the Baltic Sea in Latvia, has gained international attention - especially in French-speaking countries. Their music defies easy pigeonholing: sometimes airy and dreamy, sometimes cinematic and experimental, carried by shimmering synthesizers, bossa nova echoes and a pop sensibility all of its own.
Following the acclaimed albums Comme Ça (2015) and Miniatures de Auto Rhythm (2018), her third work People On Sunday was released in 2020 on the renowned label The Leaf. Originally composed as a soundtrack to the German silent film classic Menschen am Sonntag (1930), it opened up a new dimension of their artistic expression. The duo are currently working on their fourth studio album Deux Paradis - further proof that Domenique Dumont never stands still, but is always exploring new sonic spaces.
An evening full of enraptured melodies, subtle rhythms and cinematic atmospheres awaits the audience at the Gannet.
