CABRA is traveling again—this time to COLOMBIA! Oyelo!
On Friday, September 5, 2025, we invite you to another CABRA edition with our three formats: CULTURE – SESSIONS – JAM. Together we'll immerse ourselves in the vibrant rhythms, culinary flavors, and vibrant storytelling traditions of Colombia's Caribbean and Pacific coasts.
CULTURE – Cocoa & culinary delights by the fire
From 6 p.m. we will get together at the Mohramar (behind the Gannet ) with a cup of hot chocolate and a simple Colombian specialty. The Mohramar is also open for those who prefer something else. Location: Fire pit behind the Gannet (at Mohramar) – against collection.
SESSIONS – Concert evening with TONADA (COL) & JORICAMBA (CH)
From 8 pm, TONADA and JORICAMBA will heat up the night with the rhythms and sounds of the Afro-Colombian community. Gannet Club. TONADA is a musical group from Barranquilla, Colombia, passionately dedicated to the development of traditional bullerengue. Their sound is the result of meticulous vocal and instrumental work that respects the depth of its Afro-Colombian roots, handed down by matrons, cantadoras, cantadores, and tamboreros such as Emilsen Pacheco, Eustiquia Amaranto, and Pabla Flórez, legendary guardians of this music.
Since its founding in 2014, Tonada, with ties to the Montes de María and the Urabá Antioqueño, has developed a distinct musical identity that transcends traditional boundaries. By integrating instruments such as piano, accordion, violin, and tres cubano, the group creates new aesthetic spaces—audible in their latest album, "Bullerengue y Tonada," which was nominated for the 2024 Latin Grammy (Best Folklore Album) and the Premios Nuestra Tierra (Best Folklore Artist).
The band combines urban sound languages with traditional narratives and is now stopping by on their 2025 European tour, organized together with the LEMANA collective (Switzerland).
JORICAMBA was founded in 1981 by Leonardo Ponce, a Colombian clarinetist, percussionist, singer, and actor, in Cali, Colombia. After moving to Switzerland in 1991, he continued his musical legacy and established Joricamba as a platform for the promotion of Colombian folk music. The music of Joricamba is a vibrant blend of African, indigenous, and
European influences reflected in the traditional rhythms and instruments of the Colombian coastal regions.
After a long hiatus, the group reformed in the summer of 2020 and has since performed with a diverse lineup, including musicians from Colombia and Switzerland. Their repertoire tells stories of everyday life, of birth and death, love and nourishment, and invites the audience to dance with rhythmic, fiery songs.
JAM – Open music session for everyone
After the concert, we'll jam together! Bring your own instruments—or use a few we'll have on site—or whatever's around. We'll open up space for spontaneity, exchange, and rhythm.
