MigrArt presents SONOSYNTHESIS at the Gannet
On Wednesday, February 26, the Zurich-based MigrArt association will present its collaborative project SONOSYNTHESIS at the Gannet. The album of the same name is the result of a music project and brings together artists from different parts of the world - and on stage together during the tour. _
SONOSYNTHESIS is a musical exploration of (trans)cultural, social and political overlaps between the participating musicians. The idea for the joint album was born during the joint musical project initiated by MigrArt. The album SONOSYNTHESIS will be released on February 15, 2025 and will be accompanied by a release tour through Switzerland featuring the following artists: Yasmine El Baramway (EGY/SWE), NÂR (LBN/CH), Kay Zhang (CH/AUS), LEGION SEVEN (CAN/DE), **tracy september **(SA/CH), and Siavash Nameshiri (CH/IRN/KRD). The tour offers an opportunity to experience the energy of the album live. Solo and collective performances make this new and unexpected sound language audible and tangible. On Wednesday, February 26, they will transform the Gannet into a cultural sound space.
During the SONOSYNTHESIS music project, a community of eleven different musicians emerged across borders. They explored their ideas around collective authorship, "noise", belonging, exclusion, care and community. The recordings created through experimentation and improvisation form the centerpiece of the album SONOSYNTHESIS. The 25-minute piece entitled "Cyclic Re-en-generations" contains elements from all participants. The snapshot expresses the essence of the collective: it is a reflection of all the different characters, cultures, places and spaces. Through the different musical backgrounds and influences, the piece captures the traces of Switzerland, Canada, Egypt, South Africa, Lebanon and Chile; this is achieved through modular synthesizers, oud, voices, harp, saxophone, drums, shruti box, among others. As an encore for the compilation album SONOSYNTHESIS, MigrArt has invited six of the artists to create solo works inspired by the joint music project.
It is difficult to categorize this album into a genre. Some may describe it as soulful noise, others experimental. Some think it's electro-acoustic expressionism and others won't even try to put a name to it. Listening to this album feels like a glimpse into an unusual world where time and space no longer have any meaning. All that remains is the feeling of existing in a world of sound that you have created yourself. SONOSYNTHESIS is the sound of possibilities.
