CABRA invites you to an evening of music featuring two extraordinary ensembles: ASMÂA HAMZAOUI & BNAT TIMBOUKTOU from Morocco and TRIO ZEYTOUNA from Freiburg/Strasbourg, performing Arabic music from across the Maghreb and the Middle East.
ASMÂA HAMZAOUI was the first woman to perform an official Gnawa concert in Morocco with her own band, paving the way for many other women to join this centuries-old Moroccan musical tradition. With her all-female band BNAT TIMBOUKTOU, she brings a captivating, spiritual sound to the stage: guembri, qraqeb, and a voice that gets under your skin—often described as “desert blues.” Following their acclaimed debut *Oulad Lghaba* (nominated for a Songlines Music Award), their second album, *L’bnat*, was released in 2024
.
Three voices, countless instruments, one shared passion: TRIO ZEYTOUNA is dedicated to Arabic music in all its traditions, from the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara in the Maghreb, across both banks of the Nile and the Levant, to the Tigris and Euphrates. Charlène Ploner (vocals, double bass), Issam Azzi (vocals, oud), and Ahmed Abdelali (vocals, frame drums, bouzouki) perform a rousing, groovy repertoire that is rooted in tradition yet full of life.
CABRA has been working on this evening for almost a year and is very excited to finally present both acts live in Basel.
